Supporting Young Entrepreneurs in Central America

Ficohsa has joined forces with the Tegucigalpa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the International Organization for Migration, and Glasswing International to support the Young Leaders of Impact for Central America, a program of The Howard G. Buffett Foundation and Glasswing International that is helping 50 young entrepreneurs to start and expand their businesses.

As part of the alliance, Ficohsa will lead a Financial Education Program to help the entrepreneurs to improve their personal and business finances.

Daniel Fortín of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tegucigalpa commented, “We are pleased to be part of initiatives that aim to train and guide entrepreneurs – the pillar of the country’s economy.”

Celina de Sola from Glasswing International, said “This initiative is unleashing the enormous potential of these young people, not only as entrepreneurs but also agents of positive change in their communities.  Ficohsa has had the vision of investing in a population that is traditionally socially and economically excluded, but who – in reality – are the engine of the development of our countries.”

Luis Atala, Vice president of Ficohsa, added, “Ficohsa has been supporting the Young Impact Leaders in Central America program since 2022, providing financial services and helping young people to enter the market.  With financial education, they can make better decisions regarding the management of their finances.  We will continue promoting, through financial inclusion and entrepreneurship, support for the growth, innovation and development of small and medium-sized businesses in the country.”

Taking the Lead in Tackling Corruption in Central America

As a founding member, Ficohsa helped launch the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Initiative for Central America Project (ACT Project), a joint initiative of the Partnership for Central America (PCA) and Transparency International (TI).  The ACT Project encourages companies in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras to use the OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Business Conduct as a reference framework to strengthen corporate integrity and investment conditions in the region.

Ficohsa is committed to the PCA Corporate Pledge on the Rule of Law to ensure its business operations in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras do not adversely affect or violate the rights of stakeholders.  The ACT Project strives to support members’ compliance with this Rule of Law Pledge; encourage companies to adopt, implement, and monitor transparent and legal business practices; and foster a vibrant and expanding network of corporate integrity in the region.

Ficohsa Joins USAID Initiative to Provide Youth Job Opportunities

Working in partnership with public and private sector stakeholders, the USAID’s Creando Mi Futuro Aquí (Creating My Future Here) initiative launched in September 2021 with the goal of preparing 500,000 youth to contribute socially and economically to Honduras.  Pledging its support for the initiative, Ficohsa will provide hundreds of young Hondurans with access to tailored training.

Executive Vice President of Ficohsa, Luis Atala, said, “This is the culmination of much hard work with USAID over the years.  We are committed to continue contributing significantly to the development of Honduran youths, promoting a promising future for everyone by building sustainable communities where we encourage people to go further.”
